The Effectiveness of Virtual Lactation Support - Review & Analysis

The World Health Organization recommends lactation support to enhance the rates of exclusive breastfeeding. Access to in person lactation support may be limited due to scarcity of resources (e.g., healthcare professionals) and geography. Advances in technology have allowed lactation supports to be offered virtually through information and communication technologies (i.e., telephone, internet, and social media).

Voice of Mothers-Milk for Donation After Infant Death

The second stage of lactation with copious milk production occurs after birth regardless of the infant’s survival. Previous research indicates that milk donation following a perinatal loss may help some bereaved mothers come to terms with their loss. The purpose of this study was to explore the experience of women choosing to continue to express milk after a perinatal loss specifically for donation to a nonprofit milk bank governed by the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA).
